Amsterdam is maritime: damp, windy, with low light from November to February and long bright evenings in summer. Canal houses have tall, narrow windows and steep stairs, so curtains are long and light enough to hang well, and sofas arrive through the window as often as through the door. Humidity is constant, and fabrics that air easily and resist mildew are appreciated.
Studios work on canal houses in the Grachtengordel and the Jordaan, on apartments in Oud-Zuid and De Pijp, on hotels and restaurants, and on offices in the Zuidas business district. Dutch design favours clear forms and honest materials, so wool, linen and plain weaves in deep or muted colours are specified more often than pattern.
Fabric Library, Al Guthmi, Pierre Frey and Ultrafabrics are the four mills at launch. A cutting from a Dutch or Belgian showroom arrives within days; samples from the Gulf mills travel by courier and take longer. Colour is confirmed on a physical sample in the room, under its grey daylight, before an order.
WEAVRA searches these collections by measured colour, material, wear and use, keeps the fabrics that hold in one selection, and prints an A4 presentation under the WEAVRA name. Specifications come from the mill; the order and the price stay between the studio and the mill.
